Southdown Bus Depot - Vincent Tweed

Southdown logo

It is a busy day at this Southdown Motor Services bus station and garage located in a Sussex seaside town. This 1:76 scale diorama is typical of such a scene back in the 1960s. The buses, coaches and ancillary vehicles on display depict those seen in this period, but not necessarily all at the same time. There is a wide range of routes which would not normally be served by one depot. The depot is used by other operators visiting the town and their vehicles can be seen parked at the rear. Everyday life is taking place in the area around the depot which shows vehicles from the 1950s and 60s.

The Southdown models are from EFE, Corgi Original Omnibus Company, Britbus and Oxford Diecast. The bus station itself is made from a card kit supplied by the Corgi Original Omnibus Company and manufactured by Metcalfe Models and Toys, whilst the other garage comes from the Hornby Skaledale range and has been slightly modified. The half relief buildings and the paving are also Metcalfe products, with the slabs laid individually. The road is from a roll of sandpaper (yellow-180g) and sprayed with car primer and weathered, whilst the depot yard is covered with sheets of 180g wet and dry. Other scenic details and people are from various model manufacturers.
